The New York head of nationwide title insurance company First American Financial Corp. has left under a cloud of suspicion over his conduct as an executive.

Steven Napolitano, president of First American Title Insurance Co.’s New York Division, the wholly owned New York City office, left his postFeb. 15 after speaking with companyhonchos who flew in from Santa Ana, Calif., headquarters.

Additionally, a female executive is currently on “administrative leave,” sources said. She declined comment to a Post reporter.

Napolitano could not be reached for comment and a spokeswoman said the company would not comment on personnel matters.

The publicly traded company, which has a conference call scheduled for today, handles title insurance and other financial matters for many of the nation’s largest property owners as well as home buyers.

According to several sources, First American officials are now looking into a decade of Napolitano’s management style.

Napolitano is described as a “political junkie” for his numerous contributions to candidates.

In 2007, the home office of First American and an appraisal affiliate were sued by then Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for using bankers that inflated home appraisals. Later, Cuomo was criticized for accepting donations from Napolitano.
