After 32 years, Calvin Farley has left the buildings of Tishman Speyer to start his own company.

Farley, 57, the brother of Jerry Speyer’s wife, Katherine Farley, has been a “critical part” of the company, according to an e-mail sent to staff in early January that was obtained by BTB.

Written by company CEO Rob Speyer — Jerry’s son and Calvin’s step-nephew — it said, “Please join me in wishing Calvin Farley well as he pursues a new business venture outside Tishman Speyer.”

Farley joined Tishman Speyer’s property management division on the West Coast right out of school. He transitioned to leasing in Chicago and to New York, where he has run its leasing group.

“Calvin played a leading role in our revitalization of the Chrysler Building, 666 Third Avenue and the Trylons … Over the years, Calvin drove many of the largest leasing transactions in New York, such as Deloitte, Lazard, Saatchi, MetLife, Jefferies and most recently Pfizer,” the e-mail said.

Industry insiders said he was “very excited” about his future, but they were shocked by his timing as the company wraps up its 800,000-square-foot lease with Pfizer at the Spiral. A recruiter is now approaching other agents to fill his spot.

Farley did not respond to requests for comment.
