Family-owned independent Morton Williams Supermarkets has signed a lease for a new location at One West End Ave. between West 59th and 60th streets.

The first gourmet supermarket to come to this Waterline Square area, it will have 21,400 square feet of selling space on the ground floor and 8,000 square feet for storage on the lower level.

It will also have an additional entrance on Freedom Place.

Lee & Associates’ Brad Schwarz, who lives in the neighborhood, represented Morton Williams.

Gary Alterman, Richard Gelber and Scott Zinovoy of RKF represented the developers, Elad Group and Silverstein Properties.
The asking rent was $85 per square foot.

Two smaller spaces are available, with an asking rent of $100 per square foot, said David Marks of Silverstein Properties.

The condominium tower has a dramatic overhang holding its swimming pool that will cantilever high above a patio seating area that Morton Williams will soon use for its customers.

“We will provide substantial seating [both indoors and out] as well as a wine and beer bar on premises,” said Avi Kaner, a former Booz Allen principal who is co-owner of Morton Williams. “After a long day of work, people will have a place to gather.”

They may also be able to sip and shop.

The grocer has a chef on premises and offers plenty of grab-and-go foods and other fare targeted to the busy New York lifestyle. This neighborhood’s location will also have an extensive array of kosher foods.

“We cater to residential customers as well as business customers, and each of our stores is nuanced and developed for the neighborhood,” Kaner said.

The addition will be the company’s 16th area store and should open in the summer of 2018.
