Danny Meyer ’s Union Square Hospitality Group has formed a partnership with Fosun Property Holdings, the owners of 28 Liberty St., to create what will become a new $30 million public restaurant, bar and event space at the top of the downtown office tower.
That Meyer was closing in on a deal for the space was reported first in The Post on Jan. 14, 2016. It is expected to open in about a year with a dedicated Liberty Street entrance and elevators.
The still-unnamed venue — 880 feet high on the 60th floor, with 360-degree views of the skyline, rivers and harbor — is designed by Woods Bagot, the Australian outfit known for the Baccarat Hotel.
A dining and bar area will take up a third of the floor’s 38,000 square feet. The remainder will become flexible space that, in a boon for party planners, can host up to three events, with a total capacity of 800 people.
It will be the highest ballroom in the city and the largest downtown.
Union Square was represented in-house by Ron Parker while James Connors repped Fosun in-house.
Meyer’s company is known for the Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern and Blue Smoke, as well as everyone’s favorite, Shake Shack.
