Deutsche Bank filed a lawsuit yesterday to try to force two insurance companies to pay for demolition of its Liberty Street office tower, badly damaged in the World Trade Center attacks.

In the suit, which was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the bank said that high levels of asbestos, mold and bacteria make it impossible to safely repair the building.

The 41-story structure suffered a 15-story gash, with extensive foundation and fire damage, on 9/11.

Deutsche expects it will cost $1.9 billion to raze and replace the building.

The insurance companies, Allianz of Germany and AXA of France, have argued that the building is not beyond repair.
